Forged Iron Detailing Across the Range
Scrollwork Panels
C-scrolls and spiral motifs set within the main frame, the detailing most associated with traditional forged ironwork.
Finials and Railheads
Spear, ball or fleur-de-lis toppings along the top rail, available across most designs in this range.
Arched and Flat-Top Frames
Choose a curved top rail for a classical silhouette, or a flat top for a slightly less ornate traditional gate.
Wrought Iron Gate Configurations
Wrought Iron Double Gates
Two matching leaves meeting at a central post make up the large majority of the wrought iron gates we build — this is our core driveway configuration. Each leaf carries matching scrollwork, finials and frame detailing, so the pattern reads as one continuous design once closed. Splitting a driveway opening into two wrought iron gates rather than one wide leaf also keeps each leaf lighter and easier to hang, swing and automate.
Wrought Iron Side Gates
A wrought iron side gate is sized for a pedestrian side passage rather than vehicle access — typically under a metre wide — carrying the same scrollwork and finial detailing as our driveway range, scaled correctly for the narrower frame rather than simply shrinking a wider design. These are a genuine part of the range and are commonly ordered alongside a matching pair of wrought iron driveway gates for a consistent entrance.
Wrought Iron Garden Gates
Our smallest wrought iron configuration is a single leaf built for pedestrian access to a front or rear garden. A number of our existing garden gate designs already carry genuine wrought iron styling — scrollwork panels, heart or ring motifs, and decorative top rails — on a single leaf sized for a standard garden opening, rather than vehicle access.
Wrought Iron Sliding Gates
Wrought iron detailing can also be combined with a sliding gate, where scrollwork forms part or all of the leaf instead of a swinging double or single gate. This is a less common pairing in our range than the double, side or garden configurations above — we've built it as a scroll panel over a solid base and as a full ornamental scroll leaf — so it's worth discussing your specific opening with us directly, since sliding mechanics and ironwork detailing both need to suit the same design.
What "Wrought Iron Style" Actually Means
Genuine wrought iron is a hand-forged material that fell out of commercial production in the mid-20th century, and almost nothing sold today as a "wrought iron gate" is made from it. Ours are built from mild steel, shaped and welded to reproduce the scrolls, spear-top railheads and curved rails of traditional ironwork, then hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated in matt black. We call it wrought iron style rather than wrought iron because that is the honest term for what the gate is actually made from — the appearance and period character are genuine; the raw material is steel.
Suited to Period and Modern Properties Alike
Ornamental ironwork detailing was originally developed for Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian townhouses, and a wrought iron style gate still reads correctly against stone pillars, render and brick façades of that era. The same scrollwork also works well as a deliberate contrast against a plainer or newer frontage, where a single ornate gate becomes the focal point of the entrance rather than matching the property's own style.
Any Width or Height
Every gate in this range is fabricated to your opening, not supplied in fixed sizes. Tell us your required width and height and we will confirm what scrollwork and finial combinations suit the proportions.
UK Delivery
Nationwide delivery is included on every order. Allow around three to five weeks for fabrication once your order is confirmed, reflecting the additional time the scrollwork detailing takes to form and finish.
Why Choose a Wrought Iron Style Gate Over a Plainer Design
A plain bar gate is quicker to fabricate and costs less, but it doesn't carry the same visual weight at an entrance. The scrollwork and finials on a wrought iron style gate are additional fabrication steps, not decoration applied afterwards, which is why this range sits toward the upper end of our pricing rather than at the entry level.
Where This Range Sits on Price
Across the market, single wrought iron style garden gates typically run from around £80 to £120, 3ft driveway pairs from roughly £200 to £375, and taller 4ft driveway gates from around £710 upward, before any automation. Our quotes sit within that band and include the gate, fixings, finish and UK delivery — ask for a like-for-like comparison against any quote you've already had.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a wrought iron style gate the same as a genuine wrought iron gate?
No. Genuine wrought iron is a hand-forged material rarely used commercially today. Our gates are fabricated from mild steel, shaped and welded to reproduce the scrollwork and detailing of traditional wrought ironwork, then galvanised and powder-coated. We use the term "style" deliberately so the material is clear from the outset.
How do I maintain the black finish on a wrought iron style gate?
The powder-coated finish needs little more than an occasional wash with soapy water to keep the scrollwork and detailing free of grime. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the decorative sections, as these can wear the coating faster on raised or textured areas than on a flat surface.
Will the scrollwork rust over time?
The steel is hot-dip galvanised before powder coating, which protects the decorative sections as well as the main frame. Scrollwork has more edges and joints than a plain bar design, so it's worth an annual visual check of the detailing for any coating damage from strimmers, hedge trimmers or general wear, and touching up promptly if you spot any.
Can I get a wrought iron style gate without the scrollwork, just the finials?
Yes. Scrollwork and finials are specified separately, so you can choose a plainer frame with decorative railheads only, full scrollwork panels, or a combination. Tell us which elements you want when you enquire.
Will a wrought iron style gate suit a modern house?
It can, particularly as a single statement gate rather than matched to the property's own style. Many customers on newer builds choose this range specifically for the contrast between a period-detailed gate and a contemporary façade.
Can these gates be automated?
Yes. As with our other steel driveway gates, wrought iron style gates can be supplied automation-ready or fitted with a complete electric kit. The additional weight from scrollwork panels is factored into the motor and hinge specification, so mention the detailing level when discussing automation.
Do you offer colours other than black?
Black is the standard and most traditional finish for this range, but any RAL powder coat colour is available on request. Darker colours tend to suit the period character of the scrollwork better than pale finishes.
How does pricing for this range compare to your plainer driveway gates?
Wrought iron style gates generally cost more than an equivalent plain bar design, because the scrollwork and finials are additional fabrication and finishing steps. Ask for a quote on both if you want a direct comparison for your opening size.
