Composite Security Door

A composite security door is a lockable gate that fits over an existing external door — reinforcing a vulnerable entrance without replacing the door itself, and giving it a warmer, more domestic face than a plain metal grille. It’s not a solid replacement door; it’s a barred barrier finished with wood-effect boards that sits in front of one, adding an independent lock and a visible deterrent to a back door, side entrance or communal doorway. Every gate is made to your exact doorframe, low maintenance, and finished in any RAL colour. Call 02089116000 for a free quote, or read on for how it works.

How It Works

The gate is built from a metal frame with composite wood infill, hung on hinges fixed to the doorframe or the brickwork immediately around it. It closes over your existing door — wooden, glazed or composite itself — and locks independently of whatever lock is already fitted to that door. The result is two separate barriers at one entrance: your existing door, and a gate in front of it that has to be opened or forced separately, and can be hung to open inward or outward depending on which side of the doorway has room to swing.

A Warmer Face Than a Bare Metal Grille

Most security gates for doorways are open bar metalwork, which looks exactly like what it is. A composite security door gives the same independent locking and physical barrier while presenting a boarded, wood-effect face — better suited to a domestic entrance where a visible cage of bars would feel out of place, particularly on a front-facing or overlooked door.

Where They’re Used

These gates are commonly fitted to rear and side doors, utility room entrances, communal doors on shared buildings, and holiday let side entrances where an extra layer of security matters without looking like one. If you’re a landlord or managing a rented property, check with the property owner or freeholder before fixing anything to a shared or leased doorframe. For securing a side passage rather than a doorway itself, our composite side gates are built for exactly that job.

What This Product Is

It’s worth being clear about what a composite security door does: it’s a physical barrier and visible deterrent added to an existing door, not a certified replacement doorset in its own right. Locking options are available depending on how secure the doorway needs to be, from a simple latch through to a full lock and handle set.

Why Composite for a Security Door

External doors take the worst of the weather, and a gate fitted over one is exposed on every side. Composite boards don’t rot, warp or need repainting the way timber would in that position, and the metal frame beneath carries the structural strength the gate needs for daily use.

Made to Your Doorframe

Send us the width and height of your doorframe, measured on the inside of the frame itself, along with which side you’d like the hinges and which way the gate needs to open. We’ll confirm the finished size and lock options before manufacturing your gate.
