Aluminium Security Door

An aluminium security door is a lockable metal gate built to fit over an existing external door — reinforcing a vulnerable entrance without replacing the door itself. It’s not a solid replacement door; it’s a barred barrier that sits in front of one, adding an independent lock and a physical deterrent to a back door, side entrance or communal doorway. Every security door we build is made to your exact doorframe, hand-built in the UK, and finished in undercoat or any RAL colour. Call 02089116000 for a free quote, or read on for how it works.

How an Aluminium Security Door Gate Works

The gate is built from a box-section frame with welded infill bars, hung on hinges fixed to the doorframe or the brickwork immediately around it. It closes over your existing door — wooden, glazed or composite — and locks independently of whatever lock is already fitted to that door. The result is two separate barriers at one entrance: your existing door, and a metal gate in front of it that has to be opened or forced separately. It can be hung to open inward or outward depending on which side of the doorway has room to swing.

Locks and Specification

We offer a full range of locking options for security door gates, including a simple latch and padlock, a mortice lock with two keys, a box-section lock kit with handles and a euro cylinder supplied with three keys, an ornamental gate lock, a deadlock, and a hook lock. Frames are built from box-section aluminium with bars welded directly to the frame, sized to your doorframe rather than supplied as a standard stock size — most UK external doorways fall within a fairly narrow range of widths and heights, but we measure and build to your opening rather than assume. It’s worth being clear about what this product is: a physical barrier and visible deterrent added to an existing door, not a certified replacement doorset in its own right.

Where Aluminium Security Doors Are Used

These gates are commonly fitted to rear and side doors, utility room entrances, communal doors on shared buildings, shop and retail back doors, and holiday let side entrances where an extra layer of security gives both owner and guest peace of mind. If you’re a landlord or managing a rented property, it’s worth checking with the property owner or freeholder before fixing anything to a shared or leased doorframe. For securing a side passage rather than a doorway itself, our aluminium side gates are built for exactly that job, and for a shared alley serving several properties, our aluminium alleyway gates cover communal access more broadly.

Why Aluminium for a Security Door

External doors take the worst of the weather, and a security gate fitted over one is exposed to wind-driven rain on every side. Aluminium’s natural resistance to rust means the frame and bars stay sound regardless of how exposed the doorway is, and its light weight keeps the gate easy to operate on hinges that get used daily. A powder-coated finish keeps its colour and needs nothing more than an occasional wipe down.

Made to Your Doorframe

Send us the width and height of your doorframe, measured on the inside of the frame itself, along with which side you’d like the hinges and which way you need the gate to open. We’ll confirm the finished size and lock options before manufacturing your gate.
