How a Composite Bi-Fold Gate Works

Each leaf is split into two panels joined by heavy-duty hinges. As the gate opens, the outer panel folds back against the inner one instead of swinging out across the full width of the drive, dramatically cutting the clearance needed in front of the gate. Manual bi-fold gates need nothing beyond the folding hinges themselves; automated versions need a motor plus a mechanical folding arm system on top of the standard motor kit, and typically open inward only — worth knowing before you budget for automation.
