Description

These traditional composite driveway gates borrow their most recognisable visual cue from country-style timber gates — the bold X-shaped diagonal brace running corner to corner across each leaf. Behind that cross-brace, oak-effect composite boards run vertically, filling the panel with a warm, close-grained wood-look surface. The framing and cross-brace are finished in a deep bronze-brown that reads as a natural companion to the oak infill.

Cross-bracing has a real structural history — on genuine timber gates it stops the leaf sagging under its own weight. On these composite gates the frame is doing the structural work and the X-brace is decorative, but it delivers the same reassuring, agricultural silhouette that suits country properties, converted barns and larger rural driveways where a strictly modern gate would look out of place.

The gate is built with a metal frame and wood-plastic composite (WPC) infill boards. The frame supports the leaf; the WPC handles the timber look. Unlike real oak, the composite boards do not need painting, sealing or replacing when the base of the leaf inevitably starts to rot after a few wet winters. A wash-down keeps the finish presentable — no annual maintenance cycle.

The 3/4 asymmetric split takes the country vocabulary and adapts it to modern usage. A traditional pair of timber field gates would open symmetrically; this configuration keeps the larger leaf for vehicles and adds a compact pedestrian gate for daily foot access. Both leaves carry the cross-brace, so the pair reads as matched even though the widths differ. Independent locking on each leaf gives you separate control of foot and vehicle access.

Colour is customisable — WPC boards come in a variety of shades, though the warm oak effect shown here is the most sympathetic option for a traditional design brief. The frame and cross-brace finish can be specified in a darker or lighter tone to lift or ground the composition. Every set is made to the surveyed opening, so the brace angle stays true regardless of leaf width.
