Description
This is one of our composite driveway gates with pedestrian gate on the same asymmetric frame, and the interest lies in how each leaf is built up from three horizontal zones. The top third carries horizontal composite boards in a warm oak tone. A central band of frosted glazing sits between them at eye height. The lower two-thirds returns to composite — this time as vertical boards — giving the whole gate a stacked, layered rhythm.
The mixed-slat treatment is the design story here. Rather than repeating the same board direction across the full face, the horizontal-then-glazed-then-vertical stack breaks the gate into readable sections that flatter narrower openings and shorter frontages. The frame reads as a series of neat rectangles enclosing each zone, with the oak WPC providing warmth and the glazed strip letting a little daylight pass through without compromising privacy.
Structurally, a metal frame carries the composite panels — a common combination on higher-specification gates because it separates the load-bearing job from the surface finish. The wood-plastic composite (WPC) boards do not need painting, staining or oiling to keep their appearance, and unlike real oak they do not shrink or move with the weather. Cleaning is straightforward: soapy water, a soft brush, done.
The 3/4 split configuration means the driveway leaf takes roughly three-quarters of the opening and the pedestrian gate takes the remainder. In practice this delivers a single co-ordinated entrance where the pedestrian gate is used for daily comings and goings and the driveway leaf is opened only when a vehicle needs through — extending hinge life and reducing wear on the automation if it is fitted.
WPC infill boards are available in a variety of colours, including this warm oak effect, deeper walnut tones and cooler greys. The glazed strip can be specified as clear, frosted or omitted entirely if full privacy is preferred. Because the gates are made to fit your opening, the horizontal-glazed-vertical zone proportions can be adjusted so that the glazed band lands at the right height for your site.
