Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose several nesting aluminium leaves instead of one long gate?

The reason is the available parking arrangement rather than the material alone. Dividing the opening across overlapping aluminium leaves can make a straight sliding layout possible where a one-piece panel would need too much uninterrupted boundary length. The design must still provide sufficient stack depth and support for the individual sections; a telescopic arrangement is not automatically the best solution for every wide opening.

Does an aluminium telescopic gate need exactly half the opening width to park?

There is no reliable half-width rule for specifying a gate. The required length depends on leaf count, overlap and the chosen running and drive arrangement, with further allowances for guides and stopping positions. Aluminium construction does not remove those requirements. Confirm the complete open-position dimensions against your actual wall, post and boundary positions before committing to a configuration.

Is an aluminium telescopic gate necessarily cheaper because it is lightweight?

Material weight does not determine the finished project price. Multiple aluminium frames, their connections and the hardware controlling the relative movement of the leaves can add complexity. The final amount also depends on the finish, opening size, automation and site work. Ask for a specification-led comparison with a conventional aluminium slider; neither a saving nor a fixed extra charge should be assumed.

Can a telescopic design be built in any material without changing the mechanism?

Steel, composite-infilled and aluminium gates can use a telescopic opening principle, but their frames and running systems are not automatically interchangeable. An aluminium version needs profiles, connections and support positions suited to the individual leaf dimensions and loads. Changing material should therefore be treated as a design decision, not simply a replacement of panels on hardware specified for a different gate.

Should the powder-coated aluminium leaves touch as they pass one another?

The moving sections need the clearances and guidance specified for their particular system; the coated faces should not be relied on to guide each other by rubbing. Review how the leaves are supported and separated, including when parked. If contact marks develop or a section changes alignment, have the cause assessed before attempting to conceal the marks or adjust the mechanism.

Can an existing sliding motor operate a new aluminium telescopic gate?

Compatibility cannot be decided from the lighter frame material alone. The drive must suit the combined moving assembly, the way travel is coordinated between leaves, and the required operating and safety controls. Share the existing motor details if you hope to retain it, but allow for a different drive arrangement if the proposed telescopic configuration requires one.
