Description
This profile has guarded British driveways for a century: a solid lower half for privacy and protection, open vertical spindles above for light and visibility, and a top rail that rises and falls in a gentle curve across each leaf. Here that carriage-gate formula is rebuilt as folding aluminium. It is the profile most people picture when they imagine a proper driveway gate, which is exactly its strength.
The lower panels carry neat vertical boarding with a crisp shadow-line groove, while the spindled upper section keeps the gate from feeling like a wall. In the render the black finish sits handsomely between brick pillars with lanterns, in front of a brick cottage at dusk.
As aluminium bi fold gates, the leaves articulate where a traditional pair of this weight would swing wide — useful where the drive rises, where cars park close to the gateline, or where a long swing would sweep over planting. Each leaf travels through a fraction of the space, then sits flat and tidy against the boundary while cars pass.
The two-part construction is honest to the original purpose: the boarded base blocks headlights, footballs and curious noses at pet height, while the open top keeps callers visible before you open up. The split height also suits sloping drives, where a solid full-height gate can look top-heavy from the road.
A survey before fabrication means the curve of each crown is drawn to your actual opening rather than stretched from a stock size, so the profile keeps its proportions at any width. Black is shown; the boarding and spindles can be finished in any RAL colour, including two-tone treatments. Pairing a dark base with lighter spindles is a quietly effective way to lift the design against dark brick.
