Driveway Gates — Made to Measure

Driveway Gates Made to Your Exact Measurements

Most driveway gates sold online come in fixed sizes, and the gap between what you order and what your opening actually needs gets filled with packers, timber, or a compromise you look at every day. We don’t work that way. Every gate we make is built to the measurements of your opening (the real width, the real gradient, the real pillar positions) in our own UK workshop, and we can install it with our own team.

With over 30 years’ experience, we make driveway gates for period homes, new-build estates, farm entrances and commercial yards across the UK. Whatever your entrance looks like, there’s a good chance we’ve already built something close to it.

Choosing the Right Driveway Gate for Your Entrance

The right gate type is usually decided by your driveway, not your taste: how much space you have, which way the ground slopes, and how close you are to the road.

Swing gates
The traditional double-leaf gate, hinged at each side. Needs clear space for the leaves to open and a reasonably level approach. The most popular choice where space allows, with the widest choice of designs. Browse Driveway Gates
Sliding gates
Run on a track along your boundary instead of swinging. The answer when you don’t have swing clearance, when the driveway slopes up from the road, or when a swing gate would block the pavement. Browse Sliding Gates
Corner sliding gates
For entrances where the boundary turns a corner and a straight sliding gate won’t follow the line. A specialist solution, built to the angle of your specific corner. See the steel, composite and aluminium corner sliding gates.
Bi-fold gates
Fold back on themselves, halving the clearance a swing gate needs. Built for properties set close to the road where neither swing nor slide quite works. Browse Bi-Fold Gates
3/4 split driveway gates
Unequal leaf widths, so the smaller leaf opens alone for pedestrian access without swinging the whole gate. Browse 3/4 Split Driveway Gates

Materials: What Your Gate Is Made From Affects Upkeep and Appearance

Not sure which material suits you? Our metal vs composite gates comparison sets them side by side.

  • Steel

A strong, versatile option for design, from ornamental scrollwork and spear finials to flat, minimal contemporary panels. Powder-coated in a wide range of RAL colours for weather protection. The default choice for most driveway gates.

  • Aluminium

Lighter than steel and more resistant to corrosion than untreated steel, which matters most within a few miles of the coast, where salt air attacks untreated metal. The lower weight also puts less strain on automation motors. For a full breakdown, see our guide: Aluminium Gates: Benefits, Costs & Buying Advice.

  • Composite

Wood-effect panels in an aluminium frame. The look of timber with much less upkeep than real wood, which usually needs regular treating. A popular choice for modern properties where low maintenance matters.

    Browse Composite Driveway Gates
  • Wrought iron

Traditional ornamental ironwork, usually chosen for period properties, conservation areas, or where the gate needs to match existing railings.

Automation and Access Control

An automated driveway gate means you don’t get out of the car in the rain, and it means the gate is actually closed most of the time rather than propped open for convenience, which is the whole point of having one.

We supply and can install:

  • Underground and articulated arm motors for swing gates
  • Track motors for sliding and corner sliding gates
  • Keypads, intercoms, and video entry systems
  • Remote fobs and smartphone app control
  • Safety photocells and auto-reverse, as required by current regulations
  • Manual release for power cuts

Automation can be specified from new or retrofitted to a gate we’ve already installed. Request a quote with automation

What a Driveway Gate Costs

Pricing comes down to four things: the opening width, the material, how detailed the design is, and whether you’re automating it. A simple steel swing gate to a standard double driveway sits at the lower end; a wide automated sliding gate in a bespoke design sits considerably higher.

Because every gate is made to your measurements rather than picked from a size chart, we quote per project. For indicative ranges, see our 2026 driveway gate pricing guide. Quotes are free and carry no obligation.

Security and Kerb Appeal

A driveway gate does two jobs at once. It’s a visible physical barrier at the edge of your property, and it’s the first thing anyone sees when they arrive. Height, infill density, and whether the gate is see-through or solid all affect both at once, and the right balance depends on whether you’re prioritising privacy, visibility, or appearance from the street.

We’ll talk through that trade-off during your quote rather than leaving you to guess.

Measuring Your Driveway

Accurate measurements are the difference between a gate that fits and one that doesn’t. You’ll need the opening width between pillars or posts, the height you want, the ground gradient across the opening, and the surface type. Our how to measure guide walks through it.

If you’d rather not measure it yourself, we carry out site surveys as part of the quote process.

Planning Permission

Most driveway gates don’t need planning permission. The general rule in England is up to 1 metre next to a highway used by vehicles, or 2 metres elsewhere. But conservation areas, listed buildings, and Article 4 directions can remove that right for a specific property, and Scotland and Wales have their own rules. This is general guidance; check with your local planning authority before you order.

Installation Across the UK

We offer installation across the UK through our own installation team, including gate hanging, post setting and automation installation, and we can also supply gates without installation if you’d rather use your own fitter. Delivery of driveway gates is estimated at up to 15–20 working days, depending on the size of the gate, current manufacturing times and your area. See our installation service and delivery information.

Common Questions

Can you match a gate to my existing railings or fencing?

Yes. Matching a new driveway gate to existing boundary ironwork is a common bespoke request. Browse Railings

Do you make gates for unusual or non-standard openings?

Yes. Sloped ground, uneven pillar heights, angled boundaries and extra-wide openings are all things we regularly make gates for.

Can I get a matching side gate?

Yes, and many customers do. A matching pedestrian gate alongside the driveway gate keeps the entrance consistent. Browse Side Gates

How long will a steel driveway gate last?

A properly powder-coated steel gate that’s reasonably maintained can give many years of service. Coastal locations need recoating more often. See our driveway gate maintenance guide.

Do you deliver and install outside London?

Yes, we deliver and install across the UK. See our installation service.

Ready to plan your gate?
